Open Question: Car wont start, Will this idea help?

I drove everywhere. transmission is going bad as i know, which i plan on selling the car anyway, but. when i pulled up to my girlfriends house, shut it off. and went to start a few minutes later. it didnt even crank over. battery is fine. sounds like its nice getting spark, we tried to jump it. didnt work, we reset the computer, still didnt work, so we had to push start it. its a 1991 dodge stealth. sohc v6. i think its the starter going bad. is there a way to start it by hitting on the starter with a hammer or something to get me to go where i need to go? im buying a new starter today, and i cant get there unless i can start it....
